Walmart employs more than 157,000 associates in Texas. Our pay and benefits typically meet or exceed what’s offered by our local competitors. Here in Texas, our average hourly wage is $12.33. Full and part-time workers get bonuses for store performance, a 401(k) retirement plan, education and health benefits, and associates receive a discount card for 10 percent off regular priced general merchandise and fresh fruits and vegetables. At Walmart, once you get in, the opportunities are unparalleled. Last year we promoted 170,000 associates – 40 percent of those promotions went to people in their first year with the company. Nationally, 75% of the store management team started as hourly associates.

Walmart also continues to make progress on our promise to hire 100,000 veterans over the course of five years. Currently we have hired more than 58,000 veterans – nearly 7,500 of those veterans live right here in Texas. Walmart understands that every veteran is not looking for a career in retail, but every veteran does deserve a landing spot when they come home. A job where they can generate some income while they determine what comes next.
