Family Promise of Lake Houston has received a $15,000 grant from the CenterPoint Energy Foundation to support shelter and housing stabilization services for local families experiencing homelessness.

The grant will support Family Promise of Lake Houston’s housing stabilization program, which combines safe shelter with individualized case management and practical assistance. Families work with staff to identify barriers, establish goals, and take steps toward stable housing and employment.

“At Family Promise of Lake Houston our focus is on supporting children and their families while they create a path to stability,” said Jessica Penney, executive director of Family Promise of Lake Houston. “That’s why this support is so vital to our housing stabilization program, allowing us to continue to walk alongside families on their path to a stable and successful future in NE Houston.”

Support provided through the program includes connections to workforce development opportunities and other community resources designed to help parents build greater stability for their families.

Since 2009, Family Promise of Lake Houston has served more than 1,000 families through its community-based approach to addressing family homelessness. The organization works with volunteers, congregations, donors and community partners to provide shelter, meals, transportation and other support.

The CenterPoint Energy Foundation provides grants to eligible nonprofit organizations supporting community vitality and education within CenterPoint Energy’s service areas.
