• According to the Atascocita Volunteer Fire Department (http://www.avfd.com)‘s (AVFD) run log, they responded to the Sunrise in Atascocita apartments this morning around 6:20 AM.

• AVFD worked the 4 alarm apartment fire with mutual aid from Houston Fire Department (http://www.houstontx.gov/fire/), Eastex Fire Department (http://eastexfd.com/), Northeast Fire and Rescue (http://www.nefr91.org/), Crosby Volunteer Fire Department (http://www.crosbyvfd.org/), Sheldon Community Fire and Rescue (http://www.sheldonfd.org/), Aldine Fire Rescue (https://www.facebook.com/aldinefire), Westfield Fire Department (https://www.facebook.com/Westfield.Fire.Department), and Huffman Fire Department (https://www.facebook.com/HuffmanVolunteerFireDepartment).

• It took over two hours to get the fire under control.

• Two minor injuries.

• Early reports indicate the fire was started by a lightning strike.

Firefighters from the Atascocita Volunteer Fire Department responded to an early morning blaze at the Sunrise Apartment Complex. Nearly 100 responders battled the 4 alarm fire that has displaced over 50 residents.

According to the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office the fire is believed to have been started by a lightening strike.

The American Red Cross is on location with the families at the Atascocita United Methodist Church.
