Pondera King Energy Center, a new 900-megawatt natural gas plant.

Competitive Power Ventures (CPV) has announced plans for a new 900 megawatt natural gas plant located just south of Summerwood, and Generation Park, near the intersection of North Lake Houston Parkway and Lockwood Road.

According to the CPV’s website the facility will be a “Highly-efficient, combined-cycle natural gas powered electric generation station.”

Documents HKA Texas has obtained from the The U.S. Energy Information Administration show the Natural Gas Fired Combined Cycle facility is Planned for installation, but regulatory approvals have not been initiated.

In an exclusive article, Plans for new natural gas power plant northeast of Houston moves forward, Paul Takahashi, from the Houston Business Journal reports that “The first phase of development will consist of a combined cycle natural gas power plant on 88 acres.”  —  “The timeline for construction is yet to be determined, but the land plans for the site is scheduled to go before the city of Houston’s planning commission on Dec. 4.” says Takahashi

Pondera King Energy Center is expected to generate 500 jobs at the peak of construction, Once completed, the project is expected to employ 25 to 30 workers to operate the plant.
